Panoxyl Review
Panoxyl is the generic name for a number of acne products that claim to cure acne. They are known as a number of over the counter treatments designed to clear severe acne for oily skin. It is commonly known as “benzoyl peroxide topical gel.” It can also come in a cleanser form or a topical treatment form. Panoxyl has a drying effect on the skin, which reduces oil and dirt. It is to be used in very small doses. It should never be used in large quantities. The bar soap version of this product can simply be smoothed over the face like any other soap. The Panoxyl gel should be applied in small amounts on the infected acne areas.
How Does Panoxyl Work?
Panoxyl is used either in a cleanser form or a topical gel form. When applied to the skin it dries the surface cells so they fall off. Essentially it’s supposed to make the acne clear up by drying them out. It also claims to remove dead skin cells and blackheads by this same method. Panoxyl should never be used with other acne treatments, especially ones like Retin-A. Panoxyl contains Benzoyl Peroxide, a harsh anti-bacterial chemical.
Pros:
Panoxyl dries out acne quickly. The company makes many other products and is a GlaxoSmith Kline related company, which is a well known company around the world. It also has very few ingredients past the main ingredient of peroxide.
Cons:
Panoxyl dries out the skin, which may actually be counterproductive. A thick moisturizer is necessary but you may just be negating the benefits you have been seeing. Panoxyl does require consistent use, but the excess flaking and irritation can hurt the surface of the skin. Dry skin is an acne trigger as much as anything else, so it is important to keep your skin hydrated.
Many individuals that use Panoxyl have noticed extreme redness the day after using this cream. Severe itching and irritation is likely, which may be unbearable for some individuals. Further more, scratching the surface of the skin may also cause infections and scarring.
Since Panoxyl is an artificially created substance, it isn’t natural nor is it suitable for those with sensitive skin or allergies. To see any results you must regularly use this product, even after existing pimples are gone. This treatment does not prevent acne, it only clears what is already on the surface.
Panoxyl will lighten your facial hair, skin, clothing, and anything else you have your face on for long periods of time. If you have dark pillows or sheets you may wake up with a lighter colored splotch on your bedding. This is obviously a concern for those that want to keep their belongings in good shape. The skin bleaching may also make those with darker skin or hair look strange.
Final Thoughts
Panoxyl is a harsh irritant and may cause severe pain for some individuals. High concentrations of panoxyl (such as 10%) can make the condition worse. This product isn’t recommended for anyone with sensitive skin, or any person using Retin-A or a similar product.
