What Causes Acne?

What Causes Acne?

What causes acne has plagued teenagers and adults for centuries. Acne affects both your physical and mental well-being. We hope to provide you with answers to the cause in your search for relief.
So, What Causes Acne?
Over-production of oil in our body is a main reason behind this dreaded common occurrence. Each follicle we have is connected to sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands secrete an oily substance known as sebum that acts as a lubricant on the surface of your skin and hair.
Acne results when follicles become stopped up with oil and dead skin cells. A number of causes that lead to the excess sebum are hormone levels, bacteria, certain medicines and heredity.
Dead skin cells build up in the blocked hair follicle, and form a plug of bacteria. This bacterium causes the follicle wall to bulge and produce a whitehead. If the bacteria opens to the surface and darkens, a blackhead is formed. Pimples occur when blocked hair follicles become inflamed and infected.
Abnormal shedding of skin cells is the second factor in what causes acne. Our outer layer of our skin is always shedding. Those dust bunnies that invade your house are shed skin and hair. Dead skin cells are normally replaced by new ones. A person who suffers from acne produces 4 to 5 times more skin cells than normal.
The build up of bacteria on your skin is another part of the explanation of what causes acne. Bacteria are normally found on our skin. When oil is trapped in the pores, a fatty acid waste is produced. The waste irritates the skin, causing redness and swelling. This causes the bacteria to increase rapidly, out of control. Acne is not caused by a lack of cleanliness on the person suffering; the root of the cause comes from under your skin. In fact, scrubbing too hard on your skin or cleaning with harsh chemicals can make acne worse.
Some risk factors to what causes acne are hormonal changes in your body. Teenagers experience puberty and their hormones are all over the place, causing an explosion of emotions and acne outbreaks. Women have a fluctuation of hormones 2-7 days before their menstruation accounting for some acne attacks. People taking some medications such as cortisone may also develop acne.
Stress is a major problem in what causes acne. We have a stress hormone that rises when we under anxiety. This causes an increase in oil production. This means oily skin and is going to lead to acne. Do you notice how there is always cause and effect in the way our body acts and reacts? Stress also affects the skin’s natural ability to repair itself.
Dermatologists agree milk and dairy products may link to what causes acne for teens. A fact known for decades is iodine can cause acne. There is a significant level of iodine in milk produced and sold in the United States. Iodine is also found in shell fish and spinach.
Teenagers and adults have so much pressure to achieve success in school and the workplace. Much of our lives revolve around successful social and personal relationships. How we are seen by others has a lasting effect on our self-esteem. Taunts by our peers as to our physical appearance can scar us for life. You are not alone, 80% of the world’s population suffer from acne. Fortunately, there is an acne treatment available called Exposed that can eliminate your acne for good, and prevent it from coming back.
