When antibiotics don’t’ work, debridement, or stripping of the skin, has to be done to control the infection. Acne conglabata can also cause bone lesions.

There is another form acne that most sufferers don’t even realize is acne. Acne keloidalis nuchae is a form of chronic folliculitis. It causes pustules in the hair follicles for whiskers on the neck and cheeks. This kind of acne is almost exclusively a disease of young men of African descent, first occurring at puberty.

The painful bumps and lesions caused by this scar-forming disease start around a whisker, but they quickly destroy the whisker and surrounding tissue, too. Facial hair only survives around the margins of the bumps. About 1 in 7 males of African descent comes down with this condition within a year after puberty.
