Neutrogena Skin iD Acne Treatment
Since I’ve used various Neutrogena products all my life, I respect their company and figure they know a lot about skin care. When I heard they’d come out with a specialized acne treatment system called Skin iD, I couldn’t wait to try it. This is a personalized program so you’re not using a product for dry skin or oily skin, you’re getting a product formulated especially for you. The unusual thing about Skin iD is that it’s made not just for your skin type, but also for where you live, how active you are, and what kind of products you currently use.
It’s an interesting approach to delivering acne treatment so I was anxious to see the results. After I took the free skin evaluation, which took about ten minutes, I ordered my personalized kit for $39.90. From what I understand that price is an introductory special and the regular price will be around $100. Neutrogena does offer a 100% money back guarantee, though, and I would imagine anyone could see if the program worked for their skin before paying full price for a second kit.
My kit included a foaming cleanser, a treatment cream for daily use, and cleansing pads. I decided to use the foaming cleanser during my shower each morning, followed by the treatment cream, and then use the cleansing pads each evening before bed. When the package arrived, I was surprised to see that the active ingredient in all three products was 2% salicylic acid, which is exactly what I can buy off the drugstore shelf. Okay, I was thinking maybe there would be some other ingredient that would make the difference. Maybe some kind of miracle plant.
I tried the cleanser in the shower the next morning and liked the way it felt at first. It made my skin feel cool and refreshed. After I dried off, though, I started to notice my face feeling tight, almost like someone was stretching my skin back. I used the treatment cream but it didn’t seem to help the tight feeling, so I had to use my regular moisturizer which finally helped my skin feel normal again.
I went ahead and used the cleansing pad that evening. Honestly, it didn’t seem much different than the over the counter brands I’ve used (it even smelled the same). I kept using Skin iD for a couple weeks but never did notice much change in my acne. That tight feeling from the cleanser really bothered me so I finally gave it up.
I’m now trying Exposed Skin Care, which is working very well. The cleanser doesn’t dry my face at all but makes it feel smooth and soft. It also contains vitamins and herbal extracts to make my skin healthier. The Exposed toner gives a great refreshing feel to my skin and smells fabulous. I’m already noticing fewer pimples, and the acne treatment serum made a big nodule disappear overnight. I’m very pleased with the Exposed acne solution, just sorry I couldn’t say the same about Skin iD.
