Created by Dr. Howard Murad, Murad Acne Complex is designed to make skin healthy which Dr. Murad says is the key to eliminating acne forever.  Dr. Murad says that many people who believe they have acne are actually suffering from other skin conditions like rosacea and eczema.  Acne Complex claims to be able to heal those problems as well as true acne.

Murad Acne Complex contains both soothing botanicals and pharmaceutical-grade ingredients that are formulated to “calm and hydrate your skin.”  Acne Complex is a three-step system of cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating.  The cleanser is said to kill nearly 100% of surface bacteria, deep clean without irritation, and calm and soothe skin.  The exfoliating acne treatment gel will heal existing blemishes and prevent new ones from forming, and the skin perfecting lotion is oil-free and noncomedogenic.  You can optionally purchase two additional products–a clarifying mask and a spot treatment–if you feel the three-step system isn’t quite enough.

The price is a bit high, $30 for a 30 day supply.  While they offer a guarantee, it’s rather tight compared to a lot of other products I’ve looked at.  You have only 60 days from the purchase date to return the bottle to them for a refund.  Two months isn’t always long enough to decide if a product is really tackling your acne issues.

What I Learned From Other Acne Sufferers

I browsed the web to find out what other people have to say about Murad, and I must admit that their opinions are a stark contrast to Dr. Murad’s flashy web site.  Several users, even ones who said their acne wasn’t too bad to begin with, experienced terrible breakouts a few weeks after starting to use Acne Complex.  One guy, Kevin from Texas, said, “They promise you clear, beautiful skin and give you the exact opposite.”  Another person said, “Before I used this product, my skin was in so much better condition.”

To be fair, I did find one review from Sam in California who said, “I recommend only using the cleanser.  I have had great success with just it.”  Of course, she goes on to say that she also recommends “drinking lots of water, using a honey mask, and also using the egg white mask.”  I’m curious…if the Acne Complex cleanser is working well, why does she need to use a honey mask and an egg white mask?

Bottom Line

The Murad Acne Complex web site is a very convincing mix of videos, testimonials, and photos of beautiful (acne free) people.  If that was all I looked it, I’d almost definitely buy it!  But the real-life reviews from so many people on the web has told me a different story–a story that makes me think I should just stay away from Murad.

On the other hand, everything I’ve read about Exposed Acne Treatment System has been positive.  One woman even said it worked “like magic” for her.  I haven’t seen anyone give Exposed the awful reviews that Murad Acne Complex gets by the basket load.  Their guarantee is a lot better too.  I can take up to a full year (instead of Murad’s 60 days) to decide whether Exposed works for my skin.  It feels like a better choice to me.
